Methodology & Sources
Every husbandry parameter published on ExoKeeper — enclosure size, temperature gradient, humidity, UVB lighting, diet, supplementation, and cohabitation — carries a named source and a last-checked date directly on the species page it appears on. This page lists the reputable organizations and references used across the site, and the refresh policy that keeps them current. The same sourced figures power the interactive tools under /tools/ — a tool never computes a result from a formula or number that isn't already cited on a species page.
Refresh cadence: husbandry parameters are reviewed annually against their cited source, per the portfolio-wide maintenance schedule. If a reputable source updates its guidance (as has happened historically with UVB recommendations for crepuscular geckos, and with all-seed diet advice for parrots), the affected species pages are updated and the "checked" date changes accordingly.
Honest disagreement: where reputable sources genuinely differ (loose substrate and impaction risk, solitary vs. group housing for certain species), ExoKeeper documents both the current best-practice position and the noted disagreement directly on the relevant species page, rather than picking one silently or averaging them into a vague middle answer. Dangerous myths still circulating in general pet-care spaces are flagged explicitly.
